Jamo Drop

Jamo Drop

No Korean needed. Each falling piece is one Korean letter: cool silks (blue, green, violet) = consonants, warm silks (pink, red, yellow) = vowels.

가 ga

고 go

  1. Pieces. Each piece is one Korean letter made of 4 cells: cool colours = consonants, warm colours = vowels. ↑ turns it. Letters that are turned versions of each other change: ㄱ↔ㄴ, ㅏ→ㅜ→ㅓ→ㅗ, ㅑ→ㅠ→ㅕ→ㅛ, ㅣ↔ㅡ. Any other letter keeps its name; only its shape turns.
  2. Joining. When a piece lands, a vowel and a consonant that touch join into one syllable: ㅏ ㅓ ㅣ ㅑ ㅕ on the consonant's right, ㅗ ㅜ ㅡ ㅛ ㅠ under it. The gold shadow shows the result before you drop. A piece that falls after something below clears also lands, so it can join too (chain bonus).
  3. Syllables. Stage 1: every syllable counts. Stage 2 on: a syllable of the mission word fills its slot; any other syllable is good practice too: it is read aloud and breaks (+20). Syllables made one after another that spell a real word break as a bonus word (나 then 무 = 나무). Only letters that find no partner stay and pile up, like Tetris; full rows clear. Useful syllables in a row raise the combo (×2, ×3, ×4) and fill 흥; full 흥 = 최고! (the best 👍): the beat drops and points double. A letter that lands with no partner resets the combo.
  4. Words. All slots filled = word done: you hear it, see its meaning, and the 2 bottom rows clear.
  5. Clearing. Full rows clear and everything above falls. Gray blocks, and letters cut by a cleared row, go away only when their row clears.
  6. Worlds. Stage 1: any 8 syllables. Then 30 worlds, each 4 words and a sentence; the last one is all sentences. From world 8, Nature, words can have a final consonant (받침) underneath: it joins when it touches the syllable, before or after. Build 사 then drop ㄴ touching it, or have ㄴ there first and build 사 against it: 산 either way. Home and World capitals have none, so they are a breather. From world 19 the rest of Hangul arrives: two vowels make one (ㅏ + ㅣ = ㅐ, second vowel on the right; 가 + ㅣ = 개), double consonants (two ㄱ side by side = ㄲ, made before the vowel) and two finals (다 + ㄹ + ㄱ = 닭). Gold notes show how a word is really said: 음악 says [으막]. Then free play, the 2-minute rush, the daily challenge and a review of your own words.
  7. Special pieces. ㆍ heaven dot turns ㅣ into ㅏ/ㅓ and ㅡ into ㅗ/ㅜ, and ㅏ ㅓ ㅗ ㅜ into ㅑ ㅕ ㅛ ㅠ. 획 extra stroke turns ㄱ→ㅋ, ㄴ→ㄷ→ㅌ, ㅁ→ㅂ→ㅍ, ㅅ→ㅈ→ㅊ, ㅇ→ㅎ, and on a vowel it does what the dot does (today's short stroke is the old dot): ㅗ→ㅛ. 싹 (clean sweep, like a broom) clears the row it lands on. This is how Hangul letters were designed.
  8. End. The game ends only when a new piece cannot enter anywhere at the top.
